In a flurry of resurgent activity, Kim Virant drops a new single – Rivers Rise, from her forthcoming album Orion’s Belt (8/21/2026). Followers of Kim’s career may have observed she has doubled down on her musical output of late, both as a solo artist and as the driving force in Golden West, her femme-forward pairing with Kathy Moore.
Rivers Rise could be described as alt-country. But that label alone would sell short the rootsy rock n’ roll aura of the track, highlighted by her trademark throaty contra-alto vocal delivery. The recording is once again supported by her long time band: Chris Friel, Gary Westlake, Jeff Rouse and Max Rose. All of whom hold down the instrumental core for the forthcoming album. Kathy Moore also takes time away from her busy calendar to showcase her amazing piano talents on the song.
